Anjlee Agarwal

Co-founder and Executive Director of Samarthyam National Center for Accessible Environments

Anjlee is accessibility and mobility specialist, researcher and author. She co-founded Samarthyam, National Centre for Accessible Environments in 1993, which has Consultative Status with United Nations Economic and Social Council (UN ECOSOC) since 2015. She is a Member of the  CSO-Standing Committee of NITI Aayog, Government of India where she promotes the awareness on SDGs and Disability Inclusive Agenda 2030. ​

Promoting Sustainable and livable societies is her mission and she is passionate about people-friendly spaces where mobility is without barriers. Her pioneering efforts in the past 27 years have resulted in launching of flagship “Accessible India Campaign” by the Prime Minister’s office and the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, the introduction of low floor buses in India and making Mass Rapid Transit Systems universally accessible.  ​

She is regularly nominated by the Indian and UN agencies as a subject expert to advice on inclusive design, programmes and policies.  As a woman with disability herself, she believes in active advocacy and has brought policy level changes to make Incredible India = Inclusive India. ​

Anjlee has received multiple national and international awards, such as Streets for All, Connect Karo Award (2017), India Sustainable Leadership Award (2015), National Leadership Award (2014), Noble Laureates - National Awards for Social Justice and Citizen Action (2009), amongst others.
