EVENT RECAP: Driving Green Mobility through Knowledge Sharing Platforms

The webinar was organized by GIZ and TERI as a part of Transport and Climate Change Week 2021 of GIZ from 21 – 25 June and it is an annual event organized by GIZ on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMU). The objective of the webinar was to discuss and share valuable experiences and expertise for leveraging the benefits of digital tools and knowledge collaboration to advance sustainable mobility. The virtual webinar was organized on 22 June 2021 and it was attended by over 80 participants. Mr Amit Kumar, Senior Director, TERI, in his welcome address, stressed on the importance of digital electric-mobility platforms for promoting sustainable transportation. In his Special Address, Mr Siddharth Sinha, Public Policy Consultant, NITI Aayog, Government of India, highlighted the need for one-stop platform for all the knowledge resources pertaining to green mobility and he lauded Digital Library on Green Mobility (DLGM) for effectively serving this purpose. Dr P K Bhattacharya, Associate Director and Senior Fellow, TERI delivered a presentation on "Role of Digital Library on Green Mobility and Other Online Transport Platforms" and answered various queries raised by participants related to DLGM.

The panel discussion on "Leveraging Benefits through Green Mobility Online Platforms" was moderated by Mr Shri Prakash, Distinguished Fellow, TERI. The eminent panel comprised of Dr. Shantanu Ganguly, Chief Librarian, All India Institute of Medical Science (AIIMS); Mr Amit Bhatt, Executive Director - Integrated Transport, World Resources Institute (WRI), India; Dr Sagar Mody, Head of Energy Systems & Infrastructure, CENEX and Mr Ashwin Subramanian, Deputy General Manager, Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI). The panelists stressed on need for methodological approach from Government to promote green mobility platform. Open sharing of data and data validity are serious issues faced by researchers.

They appreciated DLGM as a tool which could catalyze larger level ecosystem change where agencies from both public and private sector come together to share their data and this could immensely benefit researchers in this domain. On DLGM platform, apart from various authentic knowledge resources having standardized metadata, links to all major DISCOMs, charge point operators are available. The importance of user centric mobility services was highlighted and it was recommended to integrate online e-mobility tools (such as Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) calculator) with DLGM platform to guide users to make well-informed and confident decisions.

E-mobility is an upcoming field where DLGM will play a greater role in serving researchers, creating awareness and it is a one-stop-shop for access to knowledge on Low Carbon Transport in India.
