EVENT RECAP: High-level National Dialogue on Green Transport Development: Challenges and Solutions to Attract Investment Resources

Hanoi, August 21, 2024, the Ministry of Transport in collaboration with Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) within the framework of the NDC Transport Initiative for Asia (NDC-TIA) project organised the National Dialogue "Green Transport Development: Challenges and Solutions to Attract Investment Resources". The National Dialogue was chaired by the Minister of Transport Nguyen Van Thang, with the participation of nearly 300 delegates from Ministries/Departments/Sectors, provinces/cities, international organizations, businesses, and scientists.

In his opening speech, Minister Nguyen Van Thang acknowledged and appreciated international partners, including the Government of the Federal Republic of Germany, for their support and companionship with the Ministry and local authorities. He appreciated the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) for actively coordinating with the Transport Development and Strategy Institute to organise the National Dialogue to exchange and discuss results achieved and propose practical solutions to attract investment resources in the effort of developing green transport infrastructure and switch vehicles to green energy by 2050.

In his welcome speech, Mr. Fabian Hartjes, 2nd Secretary of Economic Affairs and Climate Diplomacy at the German Embassy in Hanoi underscored that today's National Dialogue was an occasion to gather international resources. He stressed the common goal of Germany and Vietnam to achieve net-zero emissions and highlighted the importance of a just energy transition to fuel transport decarbonisation “We commit to long-term cooperation and support in reducing carbon emissions in the transport sector”, he assured.

At the National Dialogue, GIZ had the opportunity to present the results of transport scenarios towards net-zero emissions in Vietnam by 2050 and the National Electric Mobility Roadmap as a basis for proposing solutions to overcome challenges and attract investment resources for green transport development.

Concluding the National Dialogue, Deputy Minister Le Anh Tuan hopes to continue the cooperation between the MOT and international organisations on behalf of the Ministry of Transport so that Vietnam can take advantage of this support to strongly develop green transport infrastructure and implement the transition to green transport.
