The first workshop of the ZEV (Zero-Emission Vehicle) Transition Council's country partnership with India, titled “ZEV Emerging Markets Initiative Session: Fostering Partnerships”, took place on February 21st, 2023. The partnership is led by NITI Aayog, the U.S. Department of State, and the UK Government.

Highlights from the Session:

  • NITI Aayog and other central government ministries highlighted various initiatives being undertaken by the Government of India. State governments shared best practices such as Delhi's ambitious e-bus roadmap, Telangana's Mobility Valley and Tamil Nadu's newly revamped state EV policy 2023.

  • EV enterprises and industry partners, including BluSmart, Hitachi, Fujitsu, Uber, Tata Motors, IKEA, etc. described their e-mobility initiatives and submitted their recommendations for government interventions.

  • Indian and international financing agencies spoke about funding sources and financing instruments that are being tailored for the e-mobility ecosystem to address the identified gaps. For example, SIDBI (Small Industries Development Bank of India)'s partial credit guarantee and concessional loan programs, the Green Climate Fund's USD 1.5 billion support for EV financing, and EverSource-Green Growth Equity Fund, which has been investing in e-mobility enterprises for EV fleet and asset financing solutions.

  • The workshop also hosted a productive discussion to inform the activities of the Partnership to Support an Accelerated Transition to Zero Emission Vehicles in India, which was formalized by representatives of the Governments of India, the United Kingdom and the United States of America at COP27.

The roundtable discussion was organized by WRI India under the NITI Aayog-led Forum for Decarbonising Transport.
