During the 2023 The International Conference on Renewable Energies (SPIREC), WRI India, in collaboration with SLOCAT (Partnership on Sustainable, Low Carbon Transport), conducted a panel discussion—Enabling Regulatory Mechanisms for Seamless Integration of Renewable Energy in Transport—as a community side event.

The panel discussion was moderated by Pawan Mulukutla, Director-Integrated Transport, Electric Mobility and Hydrogen, WRI India. Other panellists were: Almudena O’Shea Comyn - Director of Innovation Transfer to Business at Acciona Energía, Stephen Draxler - Advisor NDC-TIA at GIZ, Agustina Krapp - Project Coordinator at SLOCAT Partnership.

Key insights

  • The success story of India’s Grand Challenge for the procurement of 5,450 e-buses that introduced innovative tender mechanisms and demand aggregation measures and resulted in a drastic price reduction (27% lower than internal combustion engine counterparts) and augmented the decarbonization of the Indian public transport sector.

  • The important role of renewable energy sector in green job creation and economic development in India and African countries. Pawan stressed on the significance of a just e-mobility transition that places women and vulnerable groups at the center stage.


The panel discussion was organized by WRI India in collaboration with SLOCAT under the NITI Aayog-led Forum for Decarbonising Transport.
