NDC-TIA will be presented at four different events at the Asia Pacific Climate Week (APCW) 2023.
Location:
Johor, Malayasia and online (see specific events below)
Time:
November 13-17
Session 1: Development and Implementation of Transport Targets, Mitigation Timelines and Action Plans
November 14th, 09:30 - 11:00 (GMT+8)
Dominika Kalinowska will represent GIZ at an ESCAP event on their regional cooperation mechanism, speaking on the role of climate targets in the transport sector, highlighting GIZ's work in NDC-TIA and Thailand, linking to the Path to Zero report and the NDC Tracker.
Decarbonising the transport sector in Asia-Pacific
November 15th, 10:30-11:30 (GMT+8)
The side event will focus on specific pathways to transform low carbon transport emissions commitments to action through different regional cooperation mechanisms and initiatives, financing instruments and policy and regulation development tools, while supporting ESCAP member States’ efforts to deliver their Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) and beyond. Successful examples from the region will be presented, where best practice knowledge and lessons learned on low carbon transport and development of electric mobility national policy frameworks in public transport will be shared.
Decarbonising the transport sector in Asia-Pacific
November 16th, 10:30-11:30 (GMT+8)
This event will convene policymakers, industry stakeholders and experts from the region to reflect on transport targets in the NDCs and LT-LEDS, progress along transport mitigation pathways, barriers to transport decarbonisation, and potential solution frameworks based on best practices towards impactful outcomes. Policymakers from three countries will present their country roadmaps and best practices for transport decarbonization, followed by a structured panel discussion focused on country- and region-specific characteristics, challenges, and opportunities of the transition to low- and zero-carbon transport systems. In particular, the discussion will reflect on the following issues:
Deploying and shifting to collective and non-motorized modes of transport;
Energy and resource efficiency in the transport sector;
Electrification of vehicles;
Shifting to low- or zero-carbon fuels.
Empowering Sustainable Transportation: Clean Mobility Solutions in Asia-Pacific
November 16th, 11:00-11:30 (GMT+8)
The proposed side event will spotlight the Leadership Group Climate Transport in Asia (LG CTA), a crucial initiative by the Asia LEDS Partnership (ALP) and the Global Climate Action Partnership (GCAP). LG CTA is committed to supporting Asia-Pacific nations on their decarbonization journey, with a particular emphasis on clean mobility, encompassing both electric and alternative sustainable transportation solutions.
